Broadridge - 2026 Digital Transformation & Next-Gen Technology Study

Published in 2026, Broadridge's sixth annual Digital Transformation & Next-Gen Technology Study draws on responses from 947 financial services technology and operations leaders across wealth management, capital markets, and asset management firms globally. The study finds that generative AI has surpassed cloud as the technology considered most impactful by financial services firms, with 80% of respondents now utilising GenAI or predictive AI in their operations, up from 31% in 2025. Agentic AI is emerging as the next frontier, with 26% of firms already using it and over half of those in active production. Tokenization continues to gain momentum, with more than half of firms making moderate to large investments in digital asset infrastructure and respondents expecting material tokenization of money markets, private assets, equities, and funds within five years. The study also highlights significant foundational challenges, including fragmented data architecture and a growing shortage of skilled talent, with 43% of firms indicating they will need to rebuild their technology stack entirely to compete effectively in an AI-driven environment.

Japan's financial crime prevention regulators promulgate amendments to AML identity verification rules (6 Mar)

The Japanese government has jointly promulgated amendments to the Enforcement Rules under the Act on Prevention of Transfer of Criminal Proceeds. The amendments strengthen customer due diligence by establishing IC chip reading as the core method of identity verification for customers presenting eligible photo identification, across both in-person and remote verification methods, including for corporate representatives. Alternative methods remain available where chip-enabled documents are not held. IC chip reading will not be mandatory for foreign passports held by non-resident foreign nationals, and businesses will not be required to retain IC chip data as part of their verification records.
