Examining Recent FEFTA Developments: IBA Japan Members’ Discussion

Even as 2025 drew to a close, the International Bankers Association of Japan’s programme showed no signs of slowing down.

In the final week of 2025, IBA Japan convened a members' discussion inviting Ms. Chika Igarashi, Partner with Nishimura & Asahi (Gaikokuho Kyodo Jigyo), and approximately 90 representatives from IBA member firms to examine recent developments under Japan’s Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Act (FEFTA). The session covered recent issues that may be subject to future policy discussions regarding prior notification requirements for inward foreign direct investment (FDI) and enabled a robust exchange of views on their implications for financial institutions operating in Japan.

As we move into 2026, IBA Japan looks forward to building on this momentum with further discussions on regulatory and market developments that matter to our membership.
We also take this opportunity to wish all our members a happy and prosperous New Year.
