The IBA Pandemic Working Group was pleased to host its first meeting of 2007, welcoming back Dr. Masato Tashiro from the NIID, who last addressed the group in June 2005. Dr. Tashiro, who works closely with the Japanese government and international bodies such as the WHO on avian influenza related matters, briefed IBA members on the characteristics of viral avian influenza, the continuing changes in the international situation as it relates to Japan, and provided a brief look at what can be expected should a pandemic arise.
