The situation in Japan looks dire, with poor growth, excess capacity, deflation and massive government debt.

Well-known for his bold and incisive perspectives on Japan’s economy, Dr. Jerram is regularly quoted in the Financial Times and The Economist. The IBA is pleased to welcome Dr. Jerram, who will raise thought-provoking questions about the future outlook for Japan’s economy and markets. Specifically, he will discuss

  • whether the economic situation is as desperate as often portrayed;
  • what can be done about it; and
  • the likely path for economic policy.

Dr. Jerram has been analysing the region for more than two decades, with a specialisation on Japan, initially in Tokyo during the late 1980s bubble, followed by a period working and studying for a doctorate in London, then returning to Japan in 1996, where he is still based. Richard has a BSc from University College London and an MSc and PhD from the London School of Economics. He is also a CFA charterholder.
