Mr. Sasaki’s last presentation to the IBA was in February 2007, an event that was very well attended by branch managers and other senior executives. He will return to the IBA to discuss:

  • the perspective of SESC oversight and enforcement in light of recent market misconducts and emerging issues; and
  • the future direction and responses of the SESC to promote greater market integrity.

In his current post, Mr. Sasaki is responsible for developing the SESC’s strategy and policy, resource management, and external relations including with overseas regulators and self regulatory organizations, as well as outreach to the public. He has a wide range of expertise and experience regarding financial sector supervision, including on-site inspection of financial institutions, risk-based approach of supervision, internal- and external-audit functions, as well as anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT). He also has extensive international supervisory experience, in particular relating to cooperation with foreign supervisors on a bilateral and multilateral basis, including policy discussions at working groups of the Basel Committee for Banking Supervision, the IOSCO, Financial Stability Forum (FSF) and the G7 Finance Ministers meetings. Before joining the SESC he worked at the IMF on assessments and technical assistance on AML/CFT.
