An Address by the Governor of the Bank of Japan

The IBA welcomed Mr. Masaaki Shirakawa, Governor of the Bank of Japan, to give his first speech as Governor to the IBA's membership on Janauary 27, 2009.

Governor Shirakawa discussed recent economic and financial market developments in Japan and abroad. In his address, he gave a comprehensive overview of both the role of international banks in Japan and the BOJ’s policy responses to the financial crisis.

This special luncheon, attended by nearly 120 people, concluded with a lively Q&A session.
