Mr. Godwin will return for a third time to address the question of how to handle redundancies. His past presentations to the IBA’s membership on this topic have been very well received. General Managers and HR professionals should not miss this opportunity to hear from one of the leading lawyers in Tokyo who regularly advises both foreign and Japanese financial institutions on dispute resolution and HR issues.

Mr. Godwin will outline the strategic decisions required to resolve issues arising from terminations and the reasons behind those decisions. Specifically, this session will address:

  • the common complaints of HR personnel and in-house counsel;
  • the different approaches to managing a termination and the consequences of each;
  • why the same mistakes are made repeatedly; and, most importantly
  • why you should not be afraid of litigation.

Mr. Godwin has represented clients in arbitrations, mediations, public inquiries and in the courts of various jurisdictions. He has been recommended as a leading individual for dispute resolution in the Asia Pacific Legal 500 every year since 2002, amongst his several other distinguished honors received in this area. He last addressed the IBA on this topic in November 2006.
