MANAGING THE CONSEQUENCES OF THE JAPANESE LIFETIME EMPLOYMENT SYSTEM

This meeting was conducted in ENGLISH.

Speaker: Mr. Peter Godwin, Partner, Herbert Smith LLP

“I am always being told that I have broken the law again. I know that but I also want to know how to fix the problem”

At this meeting, the speaker sought to answer the above, often heard, complaint. Mr. Godwin focused on the strategic decisions which can be so important to the successful resolution of issues arising on termination and the reasons behind those decisions.

Specifically, this session addressed:

1. The common complaints of HR personnel and in-house counsel;
2. The different approaches to managing a termination and the consequences of each;
3. Why the same mistakes are made repeatedly; and, most importantly
4. Why you should not be afraid of litigation.
