THE EVOLVING PENSION ENVIRONMENT IN JAPAN
Guest Speakers:
Mr. Haruka Urata, Consultant, Towers Perrin HR Services
Mr. Mark O'Brien, Consultant, Towers Perrin HR Services
(This presentation was conducted in Japanese.)
The financial management of retirement plans is now becoming an important consideration for companies struggling to keep up with the ever increasing costs of these plans. Future plan oversight and governance procedures, including investment strategy and employee communication, will likely need to be improved to overcome these obstacles. Two Towers Perrin HR representatives briefed members on the current state of retirement benefits in Japan and highlighted the following issues:
• An overview of Japan's changing pension market;
• Recent discussions on future Defined Contribution (DC) plan legislation change;
• Pension plan redesign trends and case studies, and related issues for the financial sector; and
• Investment line-ups and DC plan participant behaviors.
