Ms. Akiko Yamakawa and Mr. Kazuki Okada from the law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer discussed Labour Standards Bureau (LSB) inspections from both a practical and a legal perspective, focusing on:
• The organization and authority of the LSB
• Common triggers for an inspection and how to avoid one
• What to expect, in practical terms, during an LSB inspection
• The legal ramifications and potential fallout following such an inspection
Akiko Yamakawa is a senior counsel and specializes in regulatory matters, dispute resolution, litigation, employment law and antitrust matters, and is a member of the Dai-ichi Tokyo Bar Association and the New York Bar. She was educated at the University of Tokyo, the Legal Research and Training Institute of the Supreme Court of Japan, and Harvard Law School (LLM, 2003) and speaks Japanese and English.
Kazuki Okada is a Tokyo office partner specializing in employment and labour law (including downsizing) and financial regulatory law, and has authored a leading treatise on civil litigation and employment law in Japan. Educated at Hitotsubashi University and the Legal Research and Training Institute of the Supreme Court of Japan, he is a member of the Dai-ni Tokyo Bar Association and the Japan Association of the Law of Civil Procedure, and is a lecturer at Hitotsubashi University School of Law. He speaks Japanese and English.
