We are very pleased to welcome Mr. Takafumi Sato, who was appointed Commissioner of the Financial Services Agency (FSA) on July 10, 2007. The FSA’s top official, Commissioner Sato, will give an address to the IBA’s membership on his vision for “better regulation” which includes greater transparency and predictability and increased dialogue with industry. Commissioner Sato joined the Ministry of Finance (MOF) in 1973 and has held progressively senior positions in the MOF and the FSA. He was Director General of the FSA’s Supervisory Bureau from 2004-2007 and was also Director General of the Inspection Bureau from 2002-2004. An expert on financial sector issues, Commissioner Sato has authored several books, most recently in April 2007 on Basel II and the implications for bank supervision.
