Mr. Stuart Witchell returned to speak on effective risk mitigation and its practical application to the Japanese marketplace. He outlined the unique hurdles faced by multinationals in conducting business overseas and how they are more exposed in Japan than in their home countries.

 

Mr. Witchell covered the following specific areas:

 

1.  Detection, response to, and investigation of workplace fraud including case studies

 

2.  Measures to combat identity and information theft in the workplace

 

3.   Protection of proprietary information

 

4.   Implementation and impact of the Japanese Personal Data Protection Law

 

5.   Measures to counter cyber crime

 

6.   Differentiating investigative due diligence from background checking

 

Stuart Witchell has over twenty years of experience conducting sensitive investigations in the Asian region and the former Soviet Bloc including seventeen years as a diplomat in the British Government's Foreign and Commonwealth Office. He has been in Japan nearly ten years including five years with the British Embassy in Tokyo. At International Risk, he is responsible for conducting sensitive business intelligence projects, major financial investigations, international asset searches and crisis management assignments in Japan and around the Asian region.
