Over the past decade, the Tokyo Fire Department has reengineered and refined its approach to cope with major calamities in response to several natural and man-made disasters that occurred in Japan. Mr. Shoichi Tajima, a veteran firefighter with extensive rescue and fire control operations experience, spoke about the strategies and measures undertaken by the Tokyo Fire Department (TFD) to mitigate the risks associated with large-scale disasters.
